H2 Cargo Bike: Revolutionizing Last-Mile Logistics thanks to the patented CTS H2 swap cylinder system

17 June 2024

CTS H2 and SUM, in collaboration with partners specializing in cycle logistics and energy sustainability, presents the H2 Cargo Bike project at We Make Future 2024 in Bologna. The project, co-funded by EIT Urban Mobility, aims to design hydrogen-powered quadricycles for urban logistics.

The consortium, composed of the startups SUM and CTS H2 SRL, the Agency for Energy and Sustainable Development (AESS), and the Basque Country Mobility and Logistics Cluster, has launched the H2 Cargo Bike pilot project. The objective is to design SUM X hydrogen-powered quadricycles to revolutionize urban last-mile logistics.
From June 13 to 15, SUM will participate in the 2024 edition of WMF - We Make Future, an international fair on Digital, AI, and Tech innovation, at Pavilion 25, Stand B33 at Bologna Fiere, where the team will be pleased to unveil all the latest updates on this European project.
Characterized by an ultra-lightweight carbon fiber frame, these vehicles can carry loads of over 150 kg, with high operational efficiency thanks to the FCH system of the swappable cylinder. This technology generates electrical energy to power the electric motor's battery, eliminating the need for fixed refueling stations, making refueling operations easier and faster.

The initiative, promoted by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), represents a significant step forward in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a greener and more sustainable future. The advantages of this technology will be demonstrated in Italy and Spain, specifically in Modena and San Sebastián, as these cities are currently without hydrogen refueling stations.

By combining advanced technologies and sustainable solutions, hydrogen-powered Cargo Bikes will offer an efficient and clean alternative to traditional models, helping to improve air quality and reduce urban pollution. This innovation underscores the consortium's commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for sustainable urban mobility.
